  • Hi. I was surprised to find such a detailed fandom page! According to your profile, you are from Netherlands yet you know the Chinese history in such details. Just curious, do you understand Chinese?

  • Hey there, I was just wondering if you actually translate any of this stuff? http://the-scholars.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=9364&p=562165#p562165 I found this wonderful resource, but it's a real shame it's as difficult to translate as it is...So much information and bios from the SGZ still remain untranslated. It is certainly a difficult task, but it really is a shame. I want to learn to translate this stuff so bad - but even if you are fluent in modern chinese, you still will not understand Classic Chinese mostly. It certainly helps in translating it and is likely required as a base for translating it, but it unfortunately will not help alone. So to me, a native English speaker, it would almost be like learning 2 languages just to decipher 1 language and then to translate it back to English. I am almost willing to do such a thing as I am so passionate about this time period and frustrated at the incomplete SGZ English translation, but I believe that others who have been translating it now and other Han-Jin dynasty texts would have a much better feel for it and would be much more accurate and able to complete it much quicker (although "quick" in translating this stuff still is a long time), I only wish I had their knowledge ahead. But I suppose the only way to gain that knowledge is to do it. I'm contemplating learning Chinese just to do this. I already know German and currently learning Spanish, so my hope is that being polylingual should help out in this venture.

    but anyways, main question to you is are you yourself able to translate any of these works?

  • The birth year for Zhang Liao you put as 165 A.D., just wondering where you got this number from. Slash, justification for this date. I think it's more likely 168 A.D., after Lu Bu took Governorship of Xu.

    Unrelated, but whatever. The biographies within other bios. Should they be left there? or extracted and given a header? e.g. Ma Teng's bio quoted in Ma Chao's SGZ.

    • I had a look in Rafe's biographical dictionary and he doesn't explain why he went with 165. Perhaps it's a typo... on the numerical part of the keyboard the 5 and 8 are adjacent.

      Let's go with 168. Can you add that sentence where it says he is 28 (with a translation) as a reftag?

    • I'm actually now wondering whether it could even be two years later than that. The only records of Zhang Liao's service to Lu Bu are in 198 A.D., where he and Gao Shun defeated Liu Bei and Xiahou Dun. It may have been his achievements there that earned him the position as Chancellor.

      Later that year, when Cao Cao attacks Xiapi, Zhang Liao is not there, so he may be at his new post.

  • Hi! :D

    For starters, I have some CSS to make your mainpage a bit more responsive! :D

    @media only screen and (max-width: 1083px) {
    .mainpage #mw-content-text .lcs-container,
    .mainpage #mw-content-text > .center {
        zoom: 83% !important;
    }
    .mainpage #mw-content-text .rcs-container {
        text-align: center;
    }
    .mainpage #mw-content-text .table-is-wide:before {
        box-shadow: none;
    }
    }
    @media only screen and (max-width: 1596px) {
    .mainpage #mw-content-text .main-page-tag-lcs-exploded,
    .mainpage #mw-content-text .lcs-container {
        text-align: center;
        float: none;
        width: 100%;
    }
    .mainpage .lcs-container > table {
        margin: 0 auto;
    }
    }
    @media only screen and (min-width: 1084px) and (max-width: 1596px) {
    .mainpage #mw-content-text .main-page-tag-rcs {
        width: 900px;
        float: none;
        text-align: center;
        margin: 0 auto;
    }
    .mainpage .rcs-container > p {
        width: auto;
        clear: none;
        display: inline-block;
    }
    .mainpage .rcs-container .image img {
        width: 276px;
        margin-right: 10px;
        height: auto;
    }
    .mainpage .rcs-container p:nth-of-type(n+3) .image img {
        margin-right: 0;
    }
    }

    It seems the mainpage has changed since the last time I've seen it, and that the right column has made a comeback. So I will be panicking updating what I have tonight. :P

  • Hi Zantam03,

    I am writing a paper on the parallels between Cao Cao and Mao Zedong and I require a copy of Ts'ao Ts'ao and the Rise of Wei: The Early Years. I was wondering if you would be able to share a PDF with me? I could send you money via paypal if necessary.

    Thanks.

  • Love this Wikia. It's very detailed!! I'm new to the 3 Kingom period, juts finished the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. I've started reading The Ravages of Time, a chinese manhua based on the same novel + historical records. Have you read it? I'm reading it becasue of its rave reviews and someone with a good taste in mangas suggested it to me.

    Are you running this wiki alone? If yes, colour me impressed. I'm looking forward to exploring this more.

    Good Luck!!

    Edit: Some character profiles are not complete I think. The one on Zhuge Liang is quite detailed, but there is nothing on Sima Yi.

    • Hellow Apollo and thank you, glad you like this Wikia.

      Yea I'm pretty much running this alone, though occassionaly I get help from 3KingdomsMaster.

      No I've never read Ravages of Time. Is it any good?

      Yea, lots of character profiles are incomplete. Making them is a lot of work! And not all of them have my interest, such as Zhuge and Sima for example, so unless someone helps me out, those profiles will probably kinda stay like that.

      May I ask how you found this site?

    • I was looking for a wikia on the 3 kingdom period and came to chance upon this. Like I said, I'm new to this 'world' of the 3K period. Even though I read the novel, I don't remember all the characters and I was searching for a site that foccused on this timeline of Chinese history to make it easier for me to enjoy the work.

      The Ravages is pretty good surpringly. I wasn't expecting it to be, because the first couple of volumes were so confusing that I almost felt like dropping it. But it has become more coherent and enjoyable now. A lot of ancient Chiniese philosophy + military principles (Sun Tzu etc) + mind blowing strategies and political manouvering and court intrigue. I've never read anything like this. I wonder why it's not so popular. My only grouse with it is that there are no maps provided in the work, and therefore it becomes a really challenging read. Which was another reason on how I landed on your site, cause I was looking for maps of that period and thought maybe you might have read that work and probably written something about. I wanted some strategies explained too. There is a wiki on it, but I think it is abandoned.

  • Hey there! I'm writing a report on Cao Cao and was wondering if we could get in touch regarding your copy?

      Loading editor
    • Hello there, Well, maybe we can. You're not the first to ask me about this thesis... I did pay money for it though and tbh I don't feel like just giving it to anyone who asks. Perhaps we can do a trade?

  • Long time no see, eh? Remember me from Autopedia? Not too active on there anymore but I still work on my hockey wiki a lot... Things are looking really good around this wiki. :)

      Loading editor
    • Hey Hockeyben,

      Yea I remember you :-) How r u? Nice to see Autopedia and your wiki still exist and do well. This Wiki is still a one-man show (and has been a zero-man show for a while).

        Loading editor
    • I'm good, thanks. Haha, I feel ya... My wiki's been a one-man show from the start. A few people drift in and out, making a couple edits here and there, but nobody really sticks around for long.

      Seems to be a common thing for wikis with off-beat focuses (i.e. Non "Fandom" wikis).

        Loading editor
    • Yup, that's why I quit for a while! But lately I got some enthusiasm back so I make some edits every now & then. Not too much though.

      Wikia even calls itself the Home of Fandom now.
