Tu An 土安

Tu An 土安 is a fictional character, presumably created by Luo Guanzhong, who appears in chapter 90 of the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms

Biography

Tu An was an officer of King Wutugu, king of the Wuge 烏戈 kingdom in Nanzhong, and an ally of the Nanman chieftain Meng Huo. He sheltered a defeated Meng Huo, and followed King Wutugu into battle against Shu-Han. With his rattan armoured troops, he did well at first, but they were soon lured into Panshe Valley by an apparently fleeing Wei Yan, only to find their retreat cut off. Then fire was set to the valley and they burned to death.

• Tu An, King Wutugu and this entire event are all fictional.
• The names Tu An and Xi Ni probably originated from Zhuang language and therefore may not have meant to be pronounced as such.
